StubHub Rising Star – New York Police Athletic League – Celebrates 100 Years of Serving New York Youth
Today, we are excited to send a resounding congratulations to StubHub Rising Star the New York Police Athletic League on 100 years of serving New York youth. StubHub volunteers are excitedly preparing for July 9, 2014, when PAL will host its 100th annual PLAYSTREETS & Summer Programs Opening Ceremony in Harlem including hundreds of New York youth and police officer volunteers.
StubHub became acquainted with PAL a year ago when we were looking to expand our philanthropic program, Rising Stars, to New York and met with non-profits throughout the city. We were immediately impressed with the organization, from its incredible history of serving New York City youth — today providing sports and recreational programming to some 40,000 kids throughout all five boroughs — to the ways it helps to foster positive relationships between the city’s youth and police officers. In fact, PAL’s vision is for all children in New York to have a fun place to play, learn and grow, nurtured by a special relationship with youth development professionals and police officers.
In the spirit of Rising Stars, which is to identify outstanding local non-profits and provide them a funding boost that can help them to expand their impact, StubHub worked with PAL to identify an area where our support could make a meaningful difference. PAL would like to be able to expand the impact of their sports programming by introducing clinics and other skill-building opportunities that can help take promising young athletes to the next level and prepare them to play at the collegiate level. This in turn can help open the door to potential scholarship funds that can help New York teens realize the dream of attending college, potentially even breaking the cycle of poverty.
At StubHub, we think that’s a worthy cause and are happy to support it.
So congratulations and happy 100th birthday to the New York Police Athletic League. We look forward to seeing the ways you expand your impact over the next 100 years!
