Introducing “Meet the Stubbers”
Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll showcase stories from the people who make StubHub such a unique and exciting place to work.
We refer to ourselves as “Stubbers” and these are our stories.
Touchdown in Atlanta by Nicola Haake
Just a little more than three months into being the second Berlin-based Stubber, and having spent an amazing first week at the San Francisco office, I was in for a truly epic StubHub experience – helping the Last Minute Services (LMS) team at the NFC Championship game between the Atlanta Falcons and the San Francisco 49ers.
After touchdown in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon, I headed off to the LMS pick-up location at the Hilton Garden Inn to meet Brandon Yates and his LMS team to get an initial rundown on the operations and what to expect during game day. Only a five-minute walk from the Georgia Dome, the pick up was more than easy to find with StubHub signs clearly visible on the street and all the way up to the StubHub pop up facilities.
I arrived just in time to experience the last hour of action on pre-game day and get a brief “American Football for beginners from Europe” introduction. Having finished up for the day, Brandon, Curtis, Melanie, Ashley, Shane and I headed off to a mouthwatering staff diner at Benihana in downtown Atlanta, where our Chef Marco cooked us the most delicious Asian food at the table right in front of our eyes.
On game day, we headed off to the Hilton at 8am, with the first fans picking up their tickets shortly thereafter. Having packaged and sorted some orders, I focused on my role for the day, serving as a fan reporter for our StubHub Facebook page. Lots of the fans were loyal StubHub buyers, quite a few had specially flown in from San Francisco to support the 49ers, yet others had made long car journeys of up to 12 hours to support their teams. My personal highlight was meeting two die-hard 49ers fans from Charlotte (pictured with me below) who had emigrated to the US a couple of years ago but originally came from my small hometown near Frankfurt.
I also assisted in sorting and handing out tickets to the fans and served as a runner to get some last minute tickets down to the venue. This was when I got the chance to get into the massive stadium myself and catch a glimpse of the action on the grass. The noise, the atmosphere and the excitement I experienced at my first-ever American Football game were utterly breathtaking and amazing, providing me some truly unique memories to take back to Germany.
I was incredibly impressed at how smoothly, calmly and professionally Brandon and his team handled multiple requests, helped fans buy tickets on the website just seconds ahead of the game, solved all issues with ease and were laser-focused in providing each and every fan a great experience. So how did Brandon feel about the day? “It was a great close to the season with just one more game to go. I’m very happy and proud of the fantastic team effort today.”
Thank you, Brandon, for making me feel more than welcome and part of the team and giving me some truly unique insights into what our business is all about: serving fans, making them happy and ensuring their StubHub experience is nothing less than excellent.
