PORTUGAL. THE MAN ANNOUNCES PERFORMANCE AT SAN FRANCISCO’S THE REGENCY BALLROOM FOR STUBHUB’S NEXT STAGE CONCERT SERIES BENEFITING MUSIC PROGRAMS IN BAY AREA SCHOOLS THROUGH THE MR. HOLLAND’S OPUS FOUNDATION
This week, we announced at StubHub that Portugal. The Man will be the next artist to take the stage for our Next Stage Concert Series benefitting the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. The intimate concert event will take place on August 12th at The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco.
Tickets went on sale yesterday and 100% of the proceeds benefit the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation in addition to a $250,000 grant from the StubHub Foundation (a corporate-advised fund of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation) and access to StubHub’s platform, partners and employee talent to help further its mission to keep music alive in schools.
StubHub, the world’s largest ticket marketplace, is taking music to the next stage in its biggest music initiative yet to support emerging artists while giving access to the true music fan. Launching with its first self-produced and self-ticketed live concert event, the NEXT STAGE Concert Series, the San Francisco date with Portugal. The Man is the third of the five cross-country dates in the series that will raise money for the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation and local schools in each market. The first took place in May in Los Angeles featuring Swedish singer-songwriter Lykee Li and the second took place in June in Nashville featuring Los Angeles-based rock band Grouplove.
Portugal. The Man said: “Where we grew up there was no music education. We think about how different our lives would have been growing up had we had the opportunity to explore our creative sides. As a band, Portugal. The Man has always done whatever we can to encourage kids to explore music and the arts. We are excited to partner with StubHub to help give kids the tools they need to explore their creativity.”
StubHub recognizes that providing rewarding experiences and taking its music efforts to the next stage extends beyond the concert and, as such, is continuing the mission of its corporate social responsibility program promoting music education and the arts by naming Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation a national recipient of its Rising Star Award. The award comes with an initial $250,000 grant from the StubHub Foundation and access to StubHub’s platform, partners and employee talent to help further its mission to keep music alive in schools.
The StubHub Foundation grant will be distributed by MHOF to schools in need, in the form of $50,000 in new musical instruments that will help ensure the continuation and expansion of school music education programs throughout five of the concert series markets. In addition, 100% of ticket proceeds from the Next Stage benefit concerts will be donated to MHOF.
The Next Stage Concert Series Benefiting Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation will go on to feature a different artist in each of the remaining cities: Chicago (September) and New York (October).
