Week In Review: World Cup, ESPN and Pandora
As we look back on this last full week of June, we see that the World Cup was, naturally, one of the hottest topics that anyone was talking about but that’s not the only news:
In the heat of the World Cup, StubHub is seeing very strong numbers from Major League Soccer ticket sales. In fact, MLS sales overall are up 63% over this same time last year, and the MLS All-Star Game in Portland – which isn’t even until August 6th – has already outsold last year’s game. The teams leading the growth are the NY Red Bulls, Seattle Sounders and StubHub partner Portland Timbers. There have been some great matches at the World Cup in Brazil but there are certain to be more great matches back here at home as fans are coming out in droves as the enthusiasm for soccer continues.
Further in the world of sports, as was reported in the Sports Business Journal this week we announced a renewal of our partnership with ESPN as its exclusive ticketing partner for ESPN and its digital properties, including desktop, mobile and apps. With the three-year extension, the long-term collaboration, which began in 2007, will run through 2017. StubHub is pleased to continue this partnership to provide direct access to thousands of events through the world’s leader in sports.
In the last two weeks, we have completed two more concerts of our Next Stage Concert Series, both in Nashville. They were both very successful events and we are looking forward to more in July and continuing through October, several of which will be announced soon. For those who cannot join us at the dates in partnership with Pandora Presents or the dates benefitting Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, our page for the Next Stage will soon have very special video, photos and more from each of the artists who are performing. What’s more, we encourage you to join thousands of fans that have already checked out StubHub’s Custom Content Station on Pandora. This station gives music lovers the opportunity to check out exclusive live content from the first two Pandora Presents Next Stage Concert dates: Canadian indie rock band Tokyo Police Club in Los Angeles and indie darlings Delta Spirit in Boston. Special content from last week’s Love + Theft performance in Nashville will be up soon – check it out and tell your friends! StubHub’s Next Stage Concert Series is continuing to be just one of a number of ways we’re giving fans special access to events and exclusive content and helping fans discover great music.
Couldn’t make it to the Cup? Can’t wait for these next soccer games or Next Stage concert dates? Here are some of the events our fans are chatting about for this weekend on our Twitter and Facebook pages: Beyonce & Jay Z, baseball games in your own backyard and much more!
We’re looking forward to what next week’s 4th of July weekend sparks!
